Putting what it is that you want your hair stylist to do into words isn’t as easy as it should be. Many women often actually avoid going to the hair salon just because they’re afraid that their stylists won’t “get it.”
It doesn’t have to be this way. Here are a few tips to help you out the next time you want to go to the hair salon.
Bring Pictures In. – If you’re going for a certain look, but don’t know the name of the hairstyle, bring in a picture of it. Why tell when you can show? It’s also a good idea not to limit yourself to just shots of celebrity haircuts, since those have been styled to the max.
Be Specific. – A trim to you might be something totally different than what a trim is to another person. It’s an extremely vague word. If you want an inch off the top and your layers re-done, tell them that. Don’t assume that that is what they think a trim is. You can also describe the look your trying to go for with your hair, like wispy, curly, or soft.
Tell Them What You Did. – As embarrassing as you may feel about what you’ve done to your hair in the past, you shouldn’t try to hide it. It’ll only get in the way. Tell your hair stylist what you’ve done to your hair — be it a semi-permanent dye job, a keratin treatment, or chlorine exposure because of swimming — and they’ll adjust their approach accordingly. You’ll get a better haircut for your honesty.
Whether you’re going to hair care services or waxing services, you need to be able to articulate what it is that you want, or what it is that you’re looking for. If you have any questions about talking to full service hair salons, feel free to share in the comments.
