There’s a new Christmas tradition sweeping the United States: Ugly Sweater Parties. These are festive occasions in which guests are invited to wear the most hideous, zaniest looking sweater they can find for the amusement of all. Though these parties are certainly not competitions, each party goer wants to be the one with the ugliest piece of apparel at the party. It’s just another fun element to these once-a-year occasions.
So if you want to have the ugliest, most fun sweater this Christmas, consider going one of these three routes.
The Vintage Ugly Sweater.
Vintage ugly sweaters are the best ugly sweaters. They’re those abominations that were once thought fashionable in such eras as the ’80s (when spandex was “cool”) and ’90s (when people thought rat-tails were a good idea). They’re also the trickiest to find, so be sure to visit thrift stores and used clothing shops a couple times a week to find a good one if you want one.
The Ironic Ugly Sweater.
Many retailers have tapped into this holiday craze, and have begun intentionally making Christmas sweaters that are tacky. This is probably the easiest way to go, since you can just go to the store and buy one, but it’s also not going to get as many laughs as you might think.
The Custom Ugly Sweater.
The best way to go, though, is to make a custom ugly sweater. There are tons of screen printing services that make cheap custom tee shirts, customized hoodies and sweaters. Come up with a fun saying or design, take it to the custom tee printer, and see if they can do it. Realistically, if they make custom tees, they should also be able to make custom sweaters, too. If it’s a bit too pricey, you can always just get the pattern on an actual custom tee. Though it won’t be quite as good as an ugly sweater, the custom tee will still surely get a lot of laughs, which is the point. If all else fails, custom tees are the way to go.
