Outdoor flags have been a popular way to show ones patriotism for their country for several thousand years. In fact, the oldest known flag was found at Khabis, Iran and was dated back to 3000 B.C. It was made out of metal and measured 9″ by 9″ and it depicted an eagle, a goddess, two lions, three women, and a bull. The United States flag is one of the nation’s most widely recognized symbols. Flags are not just displayed only on public buildings but on private residences as well in the Unite States.
Custom flags can be made for anyone in any size. For example, 73% of Republicans say they display the U.S. flag at home, work, or on their car. This is compared with 55% of Democrats and 63% of Independents. Some people have customized flags, usually outdoor flags, from a flag store to display at home or on their car. Outdoor flags is a way to demonstrate patriotism. An estimated 62% of Americans say they display the flag at home, in the office, or in their car.
According to the National Flag Code, section 8 states that the flag should never be used as wearing apparel, drapery, or bedding. When you fly the American flag upside down it is a signal of distress in instances of extreme danger to life or property. At night, the outdoor flags can only be flown if they are properly illuminated, otherwise the American flag should only be flown from sunrise to sunset. Although it is not part of the official Flag Code, according to military custom, outdoor flags should be folded into a triangular shape when they are not in use.
